How To Acid Etch Your Concrete Floor Using HD 24 Or Tek Gel For Profiling
The application and cleanup process is simple. One gallon will provide coverage of 300-350 feet on a smooth concrete surface.
Notice the results of HD24 on concrete surface at Harborview Marina and Yacht Club, Baltimore Maryland. HD24 was applied to surface that hadn’t been cleaned for over 25 years. Surface was dirty and slippery from rust, algae, oils and fish. The new surface was cleaned and profiled in a two-step process yielding a non-slip surface and sealed.
Tools For Project
- Paint Brush for edges and hard to reach areas
- Clean Stiff Bristle Broom
- Roller with 3/8′ – 1/2′ nap roller with long handle extension
- Paint Tray
- Wet vac
- Squeegee
- Water and Hose
- Dust Pan
- Gloves
- Mask and fan for areas that need ventilation
- Masking or Duct Tape
- Plastic Garage Bags and Garbage Can
- Baking Soda
Application Procedures – Tips
1. Use masking tape to tape and protect exposed metal or any adjacent areas to protect and save cleanup time later.
2. If indoors set up fan and open windows and doors. 3. Shake or stir gel.
4. Pour contents into paint tray and roll on surface. Apply consistent film over entire concrete surface.
5. When rolling on surface do not apply thick. But also do not apply with hard pressure and apply too thin. The learning curve is rapid.
6. Let Gel sit on floor for 15 minutes (Acid neutralizes within 15 -20 minutes)
7. The top layer of gel still has active acid so back roll and let sit for another 15 minutes for full effect
8. For cleaning dirty surfaces like in the photo above you may have to apply, wait 15 minutes and backroll. Backrolling will activate unused acid sitting near top of gel, this step ensures efficient use. Then wait another 15 minutes. Clean surface and repeat process if needed. Try a small area first.
How To Acid Etch Concrete
1.Use squeegee to pull gel into small piles and lift off surface with dust pan.
2.Dispose into garbage bag. Add baking soda to ensure any active acid is neutralized. This step cleans over 70% of gel.
3.Clean residue with water, stiff bristle broom and squeegee.
4.Rinse again with water and clean with wet vac .
5.If yellow residue remains, rinse with water and clean with wet vac, squeegy and broom.
